This page provides examples of useful apps available for your phone or PC for tuning your F1. Enjoy!
iPhone and Android Apps
This is it! The big one!! Have you ever heard of the XXX-Main Chassis Setup Guide? I read it many years ago and it changed the way I thought about setting up RC cars. Excellent book! Now it has not only been converted to an App for both iPhones and Android but it has also been re-written and updated. $5.49 at time of writing and worth every penny.
Not sure how useful this one might be. Could be a dud or might be outstanding. While F1 cars aren't specifically mentioned, pan cars are. Because most direct drive F1's use a pan car rear pod this has the potential to be very useful.
"Within a range of tuning options, which is better, a higher number or lower? Thicker or thinner? How will a longer or shorter adjustment change the handling? If you keep scratching your head trying to remember -- RC Cheat Sheets to the rescue! For those of us who haven’t yet grasped the theory and physics of the tuning possibilities behind the many setup options, RC Cheat Sheets with its 100+ cheat sheets and 70+ full-color photos will give you shortcuts to the 1:10 scale 2WD information you need to make changes intelligently and quickly." See the Team Associated video.
iPhone only Apps
Great app that has a database of cars including Tamiya F1 cars and 3Racing FGX (although the FGX is stated to have an internal ratio of 1.0 which is incorrect, the correct internal ratio is 2.71 so create a custom car for this). Enter your pinion and spur and it will tell you the final drive ratio. Pretty standard really. But, click on ratio chart and it displays a ratio chart so you can see all the combinations or pinions and spurs around the ones you entered! If you want to calculate rollout enter the diameter of your tyres and it will do that too. And it will provide a rollout chart. You can add notes and you can save to your favourites. Very nice!!
Android only Apps
RC Formula1 has not tested any of these Android Apps but they look useful from the description:
Lite version is Free. This app is for 1/10 R/C cars. Calculate: - Final gear ratio - Motor RPM - RollOut - Potential Speed. Enter the transmission ratio, spur, and pinion to generate Final gear ratio. Enter tire diameter, motor KV and battery voltage to get potential speed and max motor RPM.
Create and save your RC Setups on your phone. You can save general, front, rear settings, damper, tires and shocks settings. Lite version limited to saving one setup sheet. Includes gear ratio calculator.
Some useful tools in one app. Designed for electric and nitro cars and aircraft. Car tools include stopwatch, gear calculator, scale speed calculator and some reference material such as lipo cut off levels. It looks like you can create your own check lists - handy!
A simple track guide for Novak ESC's.
At the track and need to convert Fahrenheit to Celcius, metric to imperial?
"Talking Stop watch is a feature rich precision talking timer. Inspired by the short comings of the iphone stopwatch and the leading android offerings. This digital stopwatch is classy, simple to use, yet highly configurable for advanced users. Current lap time, split times, delta times, stats, speech, side button operation and touch screen locking."
Allows you to make a setup change and see how this affects the car (animated). I haven't tried this yet but it looks very cool. Unfortunately it isn't available for F1 cars yet. Free demo. Full version is $40 at time of writing.
