Tamiya F104 vs F104 Pro
Comparison between the Tamiya F104 and the Tamiya F104 Pro. What's the difference? Which should I buy? We try to answer these questions.
The F104 Pro is better for racing that the standard F104. Here is a comparison from the Tamiya site:
|F104 chassis||F104PRO chassis|
|FRP upper and lower decks||Carbon upper and lower decks|
|Stainless rear shaft||Carbon rear shaft|
|Resin diff. housing||Aluminum diff. housing|
|Friction damper||TRF Special Damper|
In particular the TRF Special Damper on the Pro improves handling.
We recommend the F104 Pro over the F104, however, you can buy an F104 and upgrade parts as you wish. All F104 Pro parts are interchangeable with the F104. A big annoyance with the F104 is that it uses the F103 differential which means that whenever you remove the right rear wheel you lose your differential setting (and if you're not careful all the bits). Most annoying The F104 Pro comes with the F104 diff which allows you to remove the right rear wheel without touching the diff.
There are a lot of versions of the F104 Pro. The standard version is good but the X1 is better, as is the F104W GP. To make like hard Tamiya have just released the F104 Version 2. However, to start out and have fun the F104 Pro standard version is fine and the lowest cost of the Pro versions.
