New GQ Tyres
8 June 2015
GQ unveils its new line of F1 tires. Mounted and glued and claiming "super lightweight".
They use GQ's T3 "super grip" compound and claim "super lightweight" with 66g for the pair of fronts and 74g for the pair of rears.
At RC Formula1 this made us question what our normal wheels/tyres weigh - so out came the scales:
NB: most tyres we weighed were worn.
Ride R1 for F104
Rear 90g (16g heavier than GQ)
Front (didn't have any to weigh)
Pit Shimizu for F104
Rear 575 80g (6g heavier than GQ)
Front 571 64g (2g lighter than GQ)
So yes GQ's are super lightweight compared to R1 rears. But against the other tyres weighed the weight difference is not a lot.
Fronts come in Hard, Medium and Soft compounds while Rears come in Soft, Very Soft and Super Soft (all badged as T3 "super grip").
