Why Race F1?

In a word - realism! Above Fernando Alonso gives Mark Webber a lift back to the pits at Singapore in 2013.
F1 is the most popular motor sport on the planet with TV audiences reported as the largest collective worldwide of any sport except for the Summer Olympics and World Cup Soccer. Unlike the latter you can watch the latest F1 race almost twice per month throughout the year. There are many reasons for this popularity including; the frequency of races, each race being held in a different country, the international drivers, the many top teams, the danger, the excitement, and the fact that it's the fastest circuit racing on the planet. *
F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport. Only the best of the best drivers get to race.
Unlike most RC cars, RC F1 cars look like the real thing. You can paint your car like your current hero's livery or in the colours of your favourite historic team, or make up your own team.
There are also lots of modelling opportunities. You can make your own DRS wing, make the head and steering wheel turn in time with the front wheels, or just make the most accurate scale model you can.
The first F1 World Championship was held in 1950 and for some the modelling of Vintage and Historic F1 is their passion.
For others the scale realism is secondary to the racing and that's fine with us - racing is a lot of fun!
F1 racing has been part of the RC landscape since the beginning of the RC hobby but F1 RC racing has enjoyed a significant increase in popularity since about 2012.
There are dozens of kits to choose from (including some of the industries biggest names), consistent rules in most countries (including in Australia with the National F1 Rules), and lots of online resources on getting the most from your car.
At club level, in Australia, most States have multiple tracks that race F1 and you can see a list on our Where to race page.
So if you like the look of F1 cars and would like to give it a go, get down to your local track!
RC F1 racing is as real as it gets. Here are some photos from the 2015 Victorian State Titles to give you an idea of what F1 racing is all about.

* F1's cousin formula IndyCar Racing is the fastest motor racing on the planet (excluding drag racing). IndyCar races on oval tracks, rather than circuit racing where you turn left and right, and reaches speeds a few MPH faster than F1. IndyCars look similar to F1 cars so feel free to paint your F1 car using an IndyCar livery.
